States Tax Liabilities: States on the other hand use a variety of techniques. Some states may sell taxes due on the courthouse steps (public auctions). However, states also individually report tax liens on credit reports which will remain for ten (10) years. Since states operate differently, it is not easy to describe all. Surprisingly most people are not concerned with their state taxes as much as they are with the IRS; although, states report tax liens to credit bureaus quicker than the IRS. Moreover, IRS is generally easier to work with. Some states hold the tax liens forever and will not let go until paid. Like the IRS, any and all government agencies that we owe taxes; will charge interest (daily accrued), penalty, or even late fees. The IRS and some states even have a penalty for NOT filing. But for information about your state tax liens, please contact your state revenue department or state income tax division and ask them these questions:

1. How long are income tax liens reported on credit reports?
2. Does the state employ collection agencies to collect tax liens?
3. How does the state find a person whether in or out-of-state?
4. Is there an age limit when the collection or tax lien is stopped?
5. Does the state pull taxpayers' credit reports who have tax liens or owe tax amounts?

Counties and Parishes: Since it is impossible to search through/call every county or parish in the United States, you may contact the County Property Tax Commissioner's office in the county that you have questions. One of the things I've learned is that most tax commissioner/collector offices operate close to the state guidelines in which the county government exists. But do not "quote" me on this. The best answer I have for you is to call your county tax commissioner/collector office of Delinquent Tax Division. When asking the county offices the same questions you would ask states, the answer to the questions will definitely vary even between two neighboring counties. I concluded counties operate based upon the amount of wealth they generate. A richer county will have a better search engine to locate us, have access to credit reports (can obtain our credit reports) [...continued in book]

What is aggressive and illegal collection?

During the past few years, I've helped others restore their credit. I shared my experiences, helped with constructing effective letters, and even made conference calls with agencies in order to put individuals on the right path to repairing their credit along with many other tasks. Unfortunately, I've heard some sad stories from individuals. For example, how someone intentionally destroyed their credit in order to get even with another person (such as spouse during a divorce). I've also learned how many fell into the trap of sudden credit expansion that resulted in collapse. We can also fall victim to credit fraud and abuse. Most importantly, we become a victim of extortionists and those who abuse the law in an attempt to collect on accounts. In such situations, we face collection agencies that use all sorts of illegal techniques to collect on accounts through threats of suing us, our families and claiming that they can take everything we own. They even go to the extent of threatening our families' (who have nothing to do with the accounts in issue) belongings or income. I heard from one individual who said, "the rude collection representative threatens me to take what my mother has. My mother is a senior citizen who had nothing to do with my account."
